Members Win at Boston Garden & Flower Show
Two Little Compton Garden Club members received awards in the Amateur Horticulture Division at the March 13 – 17, 2019 Boston Flower and Garden Show, held at the Seaport World Trade Center.
Bonnie Trowbridge was awarded a First Place ribbon, a Massachusetts Horticulture Society Cultural Certificate, and the Thompson Begonia Award with a comment of “Perfection” from the judges, for her Begonia x erythrophylla “Helix” – Heirloom – hybrid begonia.
Libby Moore was awarded eight First Place ribbons, four Massachusetts Horticulture Society Cultural Certificates, plus thirteen additional ribbons. Libby’s Cymbidium orchid received the Evelyn D. Cronin (Orchid) Award and the Bennett Award for Outstanding Horticultural Achievement in addition to a First Place Award. A Blue Star fern, was awarded a First Place Award and the National Garden Clubs, Inc. Medal for Horticulture, with a comment of “Masterfully Grown and Presented” from the judges.
The Little Compton Garden Club congratulates, and is proud of, these two members.

Visiting Sakonnet Gardens
John Gwynne and Mikel Folcarelli invited us to visit Sakonnet Garden on Thursday, November 15 at 11:00. The fall-blooming camellias were in flower despite the below normal temperatures.
2018 November Meeting
Amaryllis Workshop, Wednesday, November 14, 2018 – 9:30 am
Rick Peckham, Honorary Member and owner of Peckham’s Greenhouse in Little Compton demonstrated an amaryllis arrangement with a seasonal slant, and discussed potting (submerging the bulb two-thirds into potting soil), growing and after-bloom care. He suggested growing amaryllis in stones and water, making sure to keep the liquid below the bottom of the bulb.
