Styrofoam Recycling a huge success!

Blakely Szosz drove a large U-Haul filled with an overwhelming amount of Styrofoam to Bridgewater MA to get recycled
Lynn Steiner is surrounded by the avalanche of Styrofoam collected under her leadership of the LCGC Conservation Committee’s collection project

The Styrofoam Collection on Saturday morning was far bigger than we could have imagined. The Conservation Committee got an overwhelming response to the event with lines of cars and nonstop drop-offs between 8:45 to 12:15.

Thanks to all who helped, including Lavinia and Lucy for the street signs, Bettyann (and George) for access to St. Andrew’s, Blakely for filling her truck multiple times for treks to Lavinia’s garage to store the Styrofoam, Heather Steers, Ginny, Nancy Clark and Libby for filling endless clear plastic bags, Heather Riess for yummy cookies, and Lynn for coordinating everything —— as well as everyone else who helped make the day a success.

There is so much foam that a rental truck is going to be needed to deliver it all up to Insul-Tech in Bridgewater.

We owe a Big Thank You to the Sakonnet Times for spreading the news three times in their paper. We had folks come from Bristol, Tiverton, Westport, and towns other than LC. We are also grateful for no rain or snow or wind.

September Orchard Visit

On Sunday Sept 28, the Visiting Garden Committee organized a tour of two local apple orchards ( Small World Farm, Old Stone Orchard) both in Little Compton. Small World tried to be an organic apple orchard but fungus took its toll on the crop. Old Stone very carefully applies herbicides and has bountiful crops.
