2018 October Meeting

A Flower Drying and Botanical Arts Workshop was held on Wednesday 10th October at Oldacre, Julie McGeoch’s barn, to learn how to preserve flowers for Botanical arts.
She provided SiO2 drying compound, plastic containers to hold SiO2 + flowers, acrylic spray as a final dried flower preservative, and forceps to maneuver the flowers provided by Julie and members.

Drying takes about 1 week (or longer if humid) to remove all the water from a flower, after which they are sprayed to complete the project.

Julie showed slides to show what the GCA category of Botanical arts involves.

2018 September Meeting

The September 19 program was an iPhone Workshop held in the photo studio of Sally Swart. She and Anne Tillinghast organized a demonstration of many hidden features and techniques available on a smartphone camera.

Historical Society Flower Contributions

The Little Compton Garden Club contributed flowers, arranged bouquets, delivered them in time for the Antiques Show Preview Party hosted by Preserve RI – the statewide advocate for Rhode Island’s historic places.

Morgan Devlin, Marketing Communications Manager for the organization said “the flowers were a delight! So many guests commented on the stunning bouquet at the entrance – it was a true conversation starter. The dealers scooped up bouquets and decorated their booths with them. Our party looked so much more festive with the wonderful array of blooms. And even in the pouring rain at the end of the day, the cheery bouquets stood out. Thanks so much to all the members of the Garden Club! Your talents are very much appreciated by all of us at PRI and the LC Historical Society.”

Summer Cocktail Party

The Little Compton Garden Club Summer Cocktail Party was hosted by Randi von Steinwehr and Charlie Whipple at 59 Meadow Lane on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 5:00 PM. Members and guests enjoyed the view over Briggs Marsh with drinks and food provided in a BYO fashion.

2018 April Meeting

Mary Kate Kinnane of The Local Bouquet in Little Compton demonstrated a centerpiece arrangement with Spring Flowers. Just the thought of Spring Flowers felt cheerful and hopeful on a gloomy cold April day. Mary Kate started The Local Bouquet in LC with a love for design and a passion for providing a product that is seasonal and sustainable.

Are You Recycling Right? Program April 18

The Little Compton Garden Club, the Sogkonate Garden Club, and the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation (Resource Recovery)  invite residents to attend an interactive presentation on Wednesday, April 18th at 7:00 p.m. at the Little Compton Community Center. Pat Perry, one of Resource Recovery’s lively educators and speakers, will present information on all the proper ways to recycle.  Popular questions such as: Do I leave the top on my orange juice carton? Do I flatten my milk carton? Can I recycle my containers for take out food? Can birthday wrapping paper be recycled? will be answered along with many others. All ages are welcome to come and learn how to better save our landfills and recycle regularly!  The program is FREE and open to the public.
